Fog's "Purple and Pigs" I am very, very depressed!! I read Frederick Horne's "Purple and Pigs," and that got me to thinking how bad animals are treated and then I went to the Peta website and read all those horrible things they are doing to animals. ...I can't sleep at night thinking about it. ...How can people be so totally cruel and unfeeling? ...I don't even want to live on a planet with such people! Charlotte,
Charlotte, you sound like a sensitive and aware person. Rather than just feel depressed--a condition that doesn't do anyone any good--why not put some of your emotion into a cause that will result in something being done. There are many organizations that focus on trying to do something about cruelty to animals. It's too bad that some of the members of Peta have done some outlandish things for their cause, because their basic aim, to call attention to, and do something about, cruelty to animals and birds, is a worthy one. Apparently, they feel that this is the only way they can make the "unfeeling" public you speak about aware of their cause. Possibly their many critics wouldn't be so quick to ridicule their cause if they saw first-hand the types of cruelty you allude to. But, at the same time, I've found that many people don't want to know about these things. Of course, there is also the cruelty to human beings, such as what happened in Iraq, but that's another topic. And, keep in mind that there is no more powerful tool available to change public thinking than the one that this website can teach you about: video. © 2005, All Rights Reserved
